Quick answer

A fair split charges each person for their own items, shares fixed fees equally and shares the discount in proportion to what each person ordered. For orders of ₹420, ₹310 and ₹510 with ₹60 of fees and ₹150 off, the three pay ₹389, ₹293 and ₹468, which adds up to the ₹1,150 bill.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter what each person ordered, before fees.
  2. Enter the total of all fees on the bill.
  3. Enter the discount, then share each amount over UPI.

Formula

Each person pays = own items + fees ÷ number of people − discount × (own items ÷ all items)

Round each share to the nearest rupee when you send money over UPI.

Frequently asked questions

Why split the discount by order value?
Because a percentage discount is earned by the whole bill. Whoever ordered more contributed more to reaching the offer.
Should the tip be shared equally?
Usually yes. Add the tip to the fees field to split it equally.
Can I split among more than 4 people?
Add extra people's items to one row, or run the calculator twice.
