Quick answer

Gemstones in India are often sold by ratti, but there are two ratti standards. Most gem dealers use a "pakki" or jeweller's ratti of 0.91 carat (0.182 g); the traditional ratti is 0.1215 g (about 0.61 carat). So a 5-ratti stone is about 4.55 carats by the first standard but only about 3 carats by the second. Always ask which ratti the seller uses.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the weight and its unit.
  2. Pick the ratti standard your seller uses.
  3. Add a price per ratti or per carat to convert it.
