Quick answer

Leggings are sized mainly by hips, since that is where they stretch most. Measure your natural waist and the fullest part of your hips, then take the larger size of the two. A 30-inch waist and 39-inch hips is size M in most Indian brands. Ankle-length leggings end at the ankle; churidar leggings are 8–12 inches longer so they gather at the calf.

How to measure

  1. Measure your waist at the narrowest point, above the belly button.
  2. Measure your hips at the fullest part of your seat, with feet together.
  3. Add your height to see which length suits you.

Frequently asked questions

Are free-size leggings good for everyone?
Free-size leggings usually fit hips of about 34–42 inches. Outside that range, choose a sized pair for a better fit and less see-through stretch.
What is the difference between churidar and ankle-length leggings?
Churidar leggings are longer and bunch up at the calf, which looks good with kurtas. Ankle-length leggings end neatly at the ankle and suit tunics and tops.
Should I size up for leggings?
Size up if your hips fall at the top of a size or the fabric looks see-through when you bend.
