Quick answer

Lehenga size depends on your waist and hips, and the length on your waist-to-floor measurement. Measure from your natural waist to the floor while barefoot, then add your heel height so the lehenga just touches the floor. A 30-inch waist with 39-inch hips is size M, and a 41-inch waist-to-floor with 2-inch heels needs a 43-inch lehenga.

How to measure

  1. Measure your waist at the height you will tie the lehenga, usually just above the navel.
  2. Measure hips at the fullest point.
  3. Stand barefoot and measure from that waist point straight down to the floor, then choose your heel height.

Frequently asked questions

What is the standard lehenga length?
Ready-made lehengas are usually 40–42 inches long, which suits women of about 5'2" to 5'5" in low heels. Taller women should check the length before buying.
How long is a lehenga dupatta?
Most lehenga dupattas are 2.25 to 2.5 metres long, enough to drape over one shoulder or both.
Can a semi-stitched lehenga be altered?
Yes. Semi-stitched lehengas have extra margin at the waist and length, and a tailor can fit them to your measurements.
