Savings = (old watts − LED watts) × hours a day × 365 ÷ 1,000 × your rate per unit. Replacing six 36 W fluorescent tubes with 20 W LED battens, used 8 hours a day at ₹8 a unit, saves about 280 units, or ₹2,240 a year. Swapping 60 W incandescent bulbs for 9 W LEDs saves even more, so LEDs usually pay for themselves within a year.
| Old light | LED replacement | Saving a year (6 h/day, ₹8/unit) |
|---|---|---|
| 60 W bulb | 9 W LED bulb | ₹894 |
| 40 W bulb | 6 W LED bulb | ₹596 |
| 15 W CFL | 9 W LED bulb | ₹105 |
| 36 W tube light | 20 W LED batten | ₹280 |
Savings depend on your tariff slab and actual hours.
