Quick answer

A bathroom mirror should be a little narrower than the vanity or basin counter, about 5–10 cm less on each side, and roughly 75–90 cm tall. Hang it so the centre is at about eye level, around 150–160 cm from the floor for most homes, with the bottom 15–25 cm above the tap. For a 90 cm vanity, choose a mirror about 70–80 cm wide.

How to use this calculator

  1. Measure the vanity or basin counter width.
  2. Enter the heights of the tallest and shortest people who use it.
  3. Pick a mirror in the width and height shown, and hang it at the height given.

Frequently asked questions

Should the mirror be wider than the basin?
For a single basin, slightly narrower than the counter looks balanced; for a double vanity, use one wide mirror or two mirrors centred on each basin.
Round or rectangular?
Both work; a round mirror of 60–70 cm suits narrow basins.
Does a mirror cabinet change the size?
Cabinets are deeper, so leave more space above the tap and check door clearance.
