Hours worked = end time − start time − breaks. A shift from 09:30 to 18:15 with a 45-minute lunch is 8 hours exactly, or 8.00 decimal hours; over 5 days that is 40 hours. Shifts that cross midnight are handled too: 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours. Decimal hours are what most timesheets and overtime pay use (15 minutes = 0.25 hours).
| Minutes | Decimal hours |
|---|---|
| 6 | 0.10 |
| 15 | 0.25 |
| 20 | 0.33 |
| 30 | 0.50 |
