Quick answer

Packaging cost per order is the sum of the box or mailer, tape, filler such as bubble wrap, and the shipping label and invoice. A ₹12 box, ₹2 of tape, ₹4 of filler and a ₹1.50 label cost ₹19.50 per order, which is 3.9% of a ₹499 sale and ₹9,750 a month at 500 orders. Price your listings with this number included.

How to use this calculator

  1. Divide each pack's price by how many it contains, for example ₹600 for 50 boxes is ₹12 a box.
  2. Estimate tape and filler used per parcel.
  3. Enter your orders and average price to see the monthly total and share of price.

Frequently asked questions

Does packaging affect courier charges?
Yes. Couriers bill the higher of actual and volumetric weight, so an oversized box can cost more in shipping than the box itself. Check with the volumetric weight calculator.
Is a poly mailer cheaper than a box?
Usually, for clothes and soft goods. Use boxes for fragile, heavy or high-value items to cut damage returns.
Can I claim GST credit on packaging?
GST-registered sellers can usually claim input tax credit on packaging bought with a valid GST invoice. Check with your accountant.
