Quick answer

For a full look, curtains should be about twice as wide as the rod. Add 6 inches of rod on each side of the window, multiply by 2, and divide by the panel width. A 4-foot window needs a 60-inch rod and 120 inches of curtain, which is three 48-inch panels. Indian ready-made curtains come in 5 ft (window), 7 ft (door) and 9 ft (long door) lengths.

How to use this calculator

  1. Measure the width and height of the window or door frame in inches.
  2. Choose whether the curtain stops below the sill or reaches the floor.
  3. Check your curtain's panel width on the pack and select it.

Frequently asked questions

What size curtain for a normal window?
Most Indian windows take 5-foot curtains. For a 4-foot-wide window, buy two or three 4-foot-wide panels.
Is a 7 feet curtain for a door?
Yes. 7-foot curtains suit standard 7-foot doors and floor-length windows. 9-foot curtains suit tall doors and high ceilings.
How high above the window should the rod be?
About 4–6 inches above the frame. Mounting it higher makes the ceiling look taller.
