Fabric needed depends on the garment, your size and the fabric width. On standard 44-inch Indian fabric, a knee-length kurta needs about 2.5 metres, a saree blouse 0.8 metres, a salwar 2.75 metres and a medium-flare lehenga skirt 3.5 metres. Wider 58-inch fabric needs roughly 30% less; add 10% for prints that must match.
