Quick answer

Cheap devices often have expensive refills. Printing 100 pages a month for 3 years, a ₹3,500 cartridge printer with ₹750 cartridges lasting 150 pages costs ₹21,500, or ₹5.97 a page. A ₹12,000 ink tank printer with ₹600 bottles lasting 6,000 pages costs ₹12,360, or ₹3.43 a page, saving ₹9,140.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter how often you use the product each month.
  2. For each option, add the device price, refill price and uses per refill from the box.
  3. Compare total cost and cost per use.

Formula

Total cost = device price + (uses a month × 12 × years ÷ uses per refill) × refill price

Cost per use = total cost ÷ total uses

Yields are tested in standard conditions. Real use can be lower.
