Quick answer

Use the 50% rule: if a repair costs more than half the price of a new one, replace it. Also compare the repair with the value of the life left. A 6-year-old washing machine expected to last 10 years has ₹10,000 of life left on a ₹25,000 replacement, so a ₹6,000 repair (24% of new) is worth doing.

How to use this calculator

  1. Get a written repair quote that includes parts and labour.
  2. Check the price of a similar new model.
  3. Enter the age and typical life of the product.
