Quick answer

Buy hoodies by chest (or bust) measurement. For a regular fit, your usual T-shirt size works because hoodies already have room built in. For the oversized look, either buy a hoodie labelled "oversized" in your size, or go one size up in a regular hoodie, and two only if you want it very baggy. A men's 40-inch chest is L; oversized look is XL.

How to measure

  1. Measure your chest or bust at the fullest part.
  2. Choose the look you want.
  3. Add your height for sleeve and length advice.

Frequently asked questions

Should I size up for an oversized hoodie?
Only in regular-fit hoodies. Hoodies labelled oversized are already cut wide, so buy your usual size.
Do hoodies shrink?
Cotton-rich fleece can shrink 3–5% in a hot wash or dryer. Wash cold and air dry.
Are hoodies unisex?
Many are. Unisex hoodies use men's sizing, so women usually go one size down from their tops size.
