Quick answer

Divide each price by its quantity to get the unit price, then compare. A 1 kg pack at ₹220 costs ₹22 per 100 g, while a 500 g pack at ₹120 costs ₹24 per 100 g, so the 1 kg pack is about 8% cheaper per gram.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the price and quantity of each pack in the same unit.
  2. Check the price per 100 g, 100 ml or per piece.
  3. Remember: bigger is only better value if you will use it before it expires.

Formula

Unit price = Price ÷ Quantity

Price per 100 g = Price ÷ grams × 100 · Price per kg = Price ÷ grams × 1,000

The pack with the lower unit price is the better value.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate price per kg?
Divide the price by the weight in grams and multiply by 1,000. ₹90 for 400 g is (90 ÷ 400) × 1,000 = ₹225 per kg.
Are bigger packs always cheaper?
Not always. Offers on smaller packs can beat bulk packs, which is why comparing unit price is the only reliable check.
What is unit price on Indian product labels?
Under the Legal Metrology rules, packaged goods sold in India must show the unit sale price (for example per kg or per litre) alongside the MRP.
